Facilities Maintenance Technician

Location: Louisville, KY

Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire

Pay: $24.00/hr.

Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday

 

Position Overview: Snelling is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Technician to support day-to-day facility operations for a private school located in Louisville, KY. This role requires a well-rounded, hands-on professional capable of performing interior and exterior maintenance across the campus. Under general supervision, the technician will perform electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building/grounds maintenance to ensure a safe and efficient physical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance duties across the building and grounds, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC support, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and grounds upkeep.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and determine effective repair solutions.
  • Install, repair, dismantle, and reassemble equipment as needed.
  • Operate tools, meters, gauges, and light equipment to complete and verify work.
  • Review drawings, work orders, sketches, and verbal instructions to complete tasks accurately.
  • Plan scope of work, including materials, tools, and timelines for each assignment.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Support school operations by completing set-ups and breakdowns for special events.
  • Assist with seasonal duties, including snow and ice removal.
  • Complete required documentation and routine paperwork.
  • Safely lift and/or move up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.

Required Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of relevant maintenance experience in a commercial, institutional, or similar setting.
  • Proficient with typical technician tasks: HVAC support, assembly, electrical and plumbing work, soldering, cutting/pipefitting, carpentry, painting, and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to use mechanic’s tools, gauges, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work from technical drawings, diagrams, or verbal instructions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds, and in confined spaces.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or alternative shifts as needed.
