Apartment Maintenance Worker


Snelling is looking for Apartment Maintenance Workers in the Grand Rapids area!

Full Time, $14 – $18 based on Experience

The Apartment Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the entire property in safe, attractive comfortable conditions.  This role will also assist in other types of maintenance, when necessary or asked by supervisor. 


Responsibilities of the Apartment Maintenance Worker: 

Corrective maintenance: 

  • Satisfies service requests per work order, following company procedures 

  1. Enter residents with approval at their convenience 

  2. Make repairs 

  3. Clean up thoroughly 

  4. Observes condition of apartment and reports any unusual circumstances (e.g., size and number of pets) 

  5. Leaves notice of work performed 


  • Assists with apartment make-ready procedures

  1. Paint if applicable 

  2. Services appliances, plumbing, electrical fixtures, 

  3. Repairs or replaces old and faulty parts d. Check locks / replace locks 

  4. Replaces burned-out light bulbs 

  5. Check / replace smoke detectors. 


  • Preventive maintenance: 

  1. Makes regular inspections of grounds, buildings, plumbing, electrical fixtures, appliances, and major equipment 

  2. Checks for appearance and cleanliness 

  3. Checks for structural cracks and excessive wear 

  4. Checks for faulty parts 


Additional Responsibilities of the Apartment Maintenance Worker:

  • Is on call for emergency duty when assigned 

  • Is familiar with power, water and gas turnoffs, clean-out traps, fire extinguishers and fire hydrants. 

  • Follows all company emergency procedures 

  • Snow removal and salting when necessary 

  • Assists in maintaining inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies 

  • Picks up trash on property 

  • Reports all needed repairs to maintenance supervisor 

  • Assists with other types of maintenance when necessary or asked 

  • Attends all instructional classes conducted by management 


Qualifications Needed for the Apartment Maintenance Worker:

  • High School education or equivalent  

  • Full-time maintenance experience  

  • Own transportation  

  • Good safety habits 

  • Some familiarity with electricity, plumbing, and carpentry  

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems and various appliances
