Controller

JOB DESCRIPTION

SNELLING is currently seeking an experienced, analytical accounting candidate with supervisory experience for a Controller opportunity with an established East Texas organization.  The Controller will function as the primary accounting manager, responsible for all financial aspects of the organization, as well as overseeing some aspects of the human resources responsibilities of the company.  Additionally, the Controller will be expected to provide the management team with up-to-date information regarding insurance and potential liabilities related to local and state regulations.  Finally, the Controller will need to be forward looking, providing the management team with cash projections and other specialized reporting as requested.

The major areas of responsibility for the Controller position include:

  • Supervise daily accounting operations, reconciling all bank accounts and managing all cash and credit lines.
  • Supervise the accounting support team which includes a Payroll Associate and AP/AR Associate.  Monitor their work for efficiency & accuracy. Provide corrective coaching on an ongoing basis as necessary. 
  • Prepare timely financial statements.
  • Manage the HR functions that are primarily accomplished through the accounting support staff.  Specific responsibilities include payroll, benefits management, onboarding of new employees, etc.  Keep up with any new legal requirements as it relates to tax and payroll laws, conveying changes in a timely manner to all appropriate points of contact.
  • Interact with CPA to provide all necessary reports and information for tax filings.
  • Oversee the management of phone and IT systems.
  • Oversee and verify departmental inventory procedure
  • Maintain data and generate reports as directed by the General Manager and as required by government regulations.  Prepares and oversees the preparation of the organizations sales and payroll tax returns.  Stores and retains documents as required.
  • Oversees billing and collection.
  • Advise and guide department heads on matters of record keeping

 

Qualifications to be considered for the Controller position include:

  • HS Diploma is required.  Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or business administration is strongly preferred, though an equivalent combination of work experience may be substituted in lieu of a college degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising another employee while serving in an accounting capacity
  • Proficiency using MS Office products, in particular, MS Excel.  Must also be proficient in having used accounting industry software and be willing to learn new systems to support the main functions of the accounting function.  Experience with ADP is preferred.
  • Full comprehension of how to process payroll, payroll taxes and produce associated reports
  • Prior experience calculating and filing sales tax returns
  • Strongly prefer candidates whose employment includes companies that operate some sort of equipment leasing or rental experience
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must have excellent time management skills and be detail oriented
